When it comes to nutrition, it’s important to know the difference between a diet and a nutritional plan. Being on a diet often means that you are focused solely on losing weight (usually quickly). A lot of people diet to get ready for something like a big party, a reunion, a graduation, a wedding or another special event where you want to look good. It usually involves cutting calories and often means eliminating one or more food groups. Diets generally work if you stick to them, but the results are usually temporary and can cause a yo-yo effect that messes with your metabolism.
In contrast, a nutritional plan prioritizes sustainable, long-term health benefits and takes into account your specific needs based on your goals, your specific health conditions or concerns (i.e. family history), and in a perfect world, your bloodwork. “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be they food” – Hippocrates.
